Strawberries Superfruit

California Strawberries Superfruit

Strawberries are included in Dave Grotto’s book, 101 Foods That Could Save Your Life. Did you know that strawberries are a member of the rose family and each strawberry contains nearly 200 seeds? The earliest recording of the strawberry dates back to ancient rome. The most popular varieties consumed in the United States today originated in France and are grown in California. If you lined up all the California strawberries grown in one year, they would circle the globe 15 times! Strawberries are low in calories, with only 50 calories a cup and super nutritious, supplying over 100% of the daily requirement for vitamin C per serving. They are also a source of fiber. Strawberries rank number two among the top ten fruits in antioxidant capacity. Research has found that the antioxidants in strawberries help lower “bad” cholesterol (known as LDL cholesterol). Consuming strawberries has been found to improve cognitive function and fight some forms of cancer.
